Wild meat seized
ITANAGAR, Feb 21: A joint 12 hours intensive checking was conducted at Midphu check gate today in which varieties of wild meat were recovered and seized. The seized items include ten KGs of Hog deer meat, 5kgs of Neel Gai, six squirrels, 3 birds, one wild fawl and two porcupines. They were later burnt.
The checking was headed by DFO Banderdewa with teams of Range Officers, staff of Banderdewa Forest Divison and Police Personnel of Doimukh Police Station, according to an information from Mito Rumi, Assistant Conservator of Forests, Banderdewa Forest Division.

AMSU reacts
ITANAGAR, Feb 21: Reacting to a news item appeared in this daily of February 17 issue wherein it was stated that a person in Lohit district was arrested for extorting money in the name of All Mishmi Students Union (AMSU), the AMSU appealed to all concerned, including Govt agencies to refrain from releasing such press statement without knowing the real facts and the detailed information of incident which may malign the image of the students’ union. Clarifying on the news item, AMSU in a release informed that one Nima Lama (Tamang) aged about 20 years and a resident of Telluliang village of Tezu was caught by the general secretary of AMSU after he was found collecting money from shopkeepers in Tezu Bazar on December 21, 2014. The AMSU general secretary rushed to the spot along with the general secretary of All Lohit District Students Union (ALDSU) after he was being informed of the incident by the Tezu Bazar Secretary, the release said.
The extortionist was later handed over to Tezu Police Station. A case (Case/No. 118/14) has also been registered against the culprit U/S 284 IPC at Tezu Police Station, who is still under judicial custody, the release informed. 718 benefitted from AR health camp
ITANAGAR, Feb 21: Altogether 718 patients were benefitted from the free health camp organized by the 1st Assam Rifle at Holam village under the Civic Action Programme today. A team of doctors including District Medical officer and paramedical staff actively participated in the camp wherein the people from villages like Chasa, Khoathong, Longo, old & new Paniduria, Noksa and Bera were offered free health check up and medicine.
Earlier, while inaugurating the camp, Tirap Deputy Commissioner Kamlesh Joshi lauded the effort of 1st Assam Rifle and advised the villagers to avail the opportunity as the health care delivery was provided free of cost at doorstep. The patients were also provided free lifting and dropping from their villages.
Recreational activities like volleyball and dance competitions were also organized to mark the occasion, according to an official release.

ITANAGAR, Feb 21: The Banderdewa Circle Intellectual Forum (BCIF) has questioned the integrity of All Arunachal Pradesh Students Union (AAPSU) and All Nyishi Students Union (ANSU) for their ‘mercurial stand’ on construction of Greenfield airport. BCIF reacted at the organizations for demanding to clear hurdles to expedite construction of Greenfield airport at Hollongi after meeting with officials of Airport Authority of India and civil aviation in New Delhi which was facilitated by MoS Kiren Rijiju.
Flaying AAPSU and ANSU, the Forum claimed that both students’ organisations also made similar statement while lobbying for construction of airport at Karsingsa in May 2013. Tap immense hydel potential: Modi tells Arunachal
ITANAGAR, Feb 21: Prime Minister Narendra Modi called on the people of the state to harness the immense hydel power potential of Arunachal.
Addressing a huge crowd at IG Park, Itanagar on the occasion of the 29th Statehood day, the Prime Minister cited the examples of how Nepal and Bhutan were harnessing hydropower to transform their economy, and how Himachal Pradesh had done the same for country.

Itanagar, Feb 21: Prime Minister Narendra Modi flagged off through remote control the AC Express Train between Naharlagun and New Delhi and the Intercity Express between Naharlagun and Guwahati besides dedicating to nation the 21.75 km long broad gauge railway track between Naharlagun in Arunachal and Harmuti in Assam’s Lakhimpur district on Friday to mark the 29th statehood day of Arunachal.
Describing the new trains as a "special gift" to the people of the state on the occasion of 29th Statehood Day, Modi said that with the new train linking the state capital and the national capital, tourism industry would flourish soon enabling visitors from different parts of country.

Peoples Awards were presented to different individuals and organisations in recognition of their immense contributions in the fields of education, health and agriculture, horticulture, animal husbandry etc on the occasion of Statehood Day.

DAPORIJO, Feb 21: More than 30 families which have been earning their livelihood for last 25 years in the main Daily Bazaar of Daporijo town are going to become jobless as the process to give land allotment in market area to some individuals is going on.
Clandestine practice of Govt land allotment to individuals by the authority is very common in Daporijo for last many years. Due to such practice, there are no more vacant govt. quarters in the town which needs serious attention of the Govt.
In a complaint letter to Deputy Commissioner, All New Market Daily Bazaar Welfare Committee has expressed their dismay over the ongoing land allotment process against the daily bazaar, (plot No 6 at new market) to some vested interested individuals. This allotment of land will deprive the poor vegetable vendors and their family members of livelihood.
Terming the allotment process as clandestine the Committee condemned the authority for such ‘illegal practice’ which pave the way for encroachment.
Meanwhile, Tagin Cultural Society (TCS) also condemned such clandestine practice of land allotment to individuals without the consent of the vegetable vendors. Observing the sentiments of the public, the TCS appealed the authority to cancel the allotment process immediately to avoid any untoward situation.
Meanwhile, All Tagin Youth Organization has also registered its anguish and appealed to the administration to immediately cancel the allotment process and allow the poor vegetable vendors to continue their livelihood in daily bazaar. The Organization also threatened to launch democratic movement if the authorities do not pay heed to grievances.

Capital Complex retain men’s football title
ITANAGAR, Feb 21: Capital Complex retained the men's football title in the Chief Minister's Trophy tournament defeating Lower Subansiri by solitary goal in the final played at Rajiv Gandhi Stadium, Naharlagun yesterday.
The winning goal was scored by Gobinso Drai in the second minutes of the play.
The Governor of Arunachal Pradesh Lt. Gen (Retd) Nirbhay Sharma, who kicked off the final match, said that sportspersons are the ambassadors of Arunachal Pradesh in the games and sports arenas. Stating that the spectators and children look upon them as their idols, therefore, they must maintain high degree of sportsman spirit.
The Governor called upon the youth of the State and children to take active part in games and sports. He appealed to guardians and parents to encourage their children in games and sports.
Highlighting the importance of games and sports, the Governor said that sports facilitate channelize youth energy for the betterment of society; help them to physically and mentally fit.
"If you are physical and mental fit, you have the highest chance to excel in life. Moreover, you have a bright future to join the armed forces. Keep fit and join Indian Armed Forces maintaining the tradition of 'Sentinel of North East', the Governor said.
Citing recent successes in the national level competition by the sportspersons of the State, the Governor congratulated the members of Archery Team for the gold medal, other participants and their family, friends and community for the rear achievement. He also congratulated other sportspersons who brought laurels in other fields like weightlifting, badminton, karate and mountaineering.
Chief Minister Nabum Tuki, Parliamentary Secretary (Home, Sports and Youth Affairs) Likha Saaya were present, amongst others, on the occasion.
The trophies and prizes to the winner and runners up will be given away tomorrow at IG Park here.

Mudang Omo and Anung Wangsu win men and women’s mini marathon race
ITANAGAR, Feb 21: Mudang Omo and Anung Wangsu won the men and women's mini marathon race with theme "Run for mission 2030 together we will do it" organized by the Department of Sports and Youth Affairs as part of the 29th Statehood Day celebration.
Omo clocked 38.07 minute while Anung took 53.42 minutes to win the race in men and women's category respectively.
T. Tako (38.28 min) and Soma Pao (41.40 min) finished second and third respectively in men's category.
Soni Nalo (55.26 min) and Anai Wangsu (56.42 min) won the second and third positions in women's category.
Both Anung and Soni are students of Sangey Lhaden Sports Academy and Anai is student of SAI, SAG centre, Naharlagun.
Besides the top three finishers, consolation prizes were also given to 4th to 10th position holders of both men's and women's categories.
The race which was flagged at Rajiv Gandhi Stadium Naharlagun by Parliamentary Secretary (Sports and Youth Affairs) Likha Saaya and Secretary Sports Dani Salu finished at Indira Gandhi Park, Itanagar. Director of Sports and Youth Affairs DK Dinglow, JDSYA Tadar Appa, Ramesh Linggi and Papum Pare DSO OB Meitei were present during the flagging off ceremony.
169 athletes including 127 men and 42 women participated in the race.
