Wild meat seized

ITANAGAR, Feb 21:   A joint 12 hours intensive checking was conducted at Midphu check gate today in which varieties of wild meat were recovered and seized. The seized items include ten KGs of Hog deer meat, 5kgs of Neel Gai, six squirrels, 3 birds, one wild fawl and two porcupines. They were later burnt.

The checking was headed by DFO Banderdewa with teams of  Range Officers, staff of Banderdewa Forest Divison and Police Personnel of Doimukh Police Station, according to an information from Mito Rumi, Assistant Conservator of Forests, Banderdewa Forest Division.

 

NE to be organic hub

ITANAGAR, Feb 21: Prime Minister Narendra Modi said the Centre was planning to convert North East into an 'Organic Hub' of the country to boost agriculture and horticulture production keeping in view its conducive agro-climatic condition and has proposed establishment of six new agriculture universities in the region.

 

AMSU reacts

ITANAGAR, Feb 21: Reacting to a news item appeared in this daily of February 17 issue wherein it was stated that a person in Lohit district was arrested for extorting money in the name of All Mishmi Students Union (AMSU), the AMSU appealed to all concerned, including Govt agencies  to refrain from releasing such press statement without knowing the real facts and the detailed information of incident which may malign the image of the students’ union. Clarifying on the news item, AMSU in a release informed that one Nima Lama (Tamang) aged about 20 years and a resident of Telluliang village of Tezu was caught by the general secretary of AMSU after he was found collecting money from shopkeepers in Tezu Bazar on December 21, 2014. The AMSU general secretary rushed to the spot along with the general secretary of All Lohit District Students Union (ALDSU) after he was being informed of the incident by the Tezu Bazar Secretary, the release said.

The extortionist was later handed over to Tezu Police Station. A case (Case/No. 118/14) has also been registered against the culprit U/S 284 IPC at Tezu Police Station, who is still under judicial custody, the release informed. 718 benefitted from AR health camp

ITANAGAR, Feb 21: Altogether 718 patients were benefitted from the free health camp organized by the 1st Assam Rifle at Holam village under the Civic Action Programme today.  A team of doctors including District Medical officer and paramedical staff actively participated in the camp wherein the people from villages like Chasa, Khoathong, Longo, old & new Paniduria, Noksa and Bera were offered free health check up and medicine.

Earlier, while inaugurating the camp, Tirap Deputy Commissioner  Kamlesh Joshi lauded the effort of 1st Assam Rifle and  advised the villagers to avail the opportunity as the health care delivery was provided free of cost at doorstep. The patients were also provided free lifting and dropping from their villages.

Recreational activities like volleyball and dance competitions were also organized to mark the occasion, according to an official release.

DAPORIJO, Feb 21: Tamin Elite Society (TES) distributed relief materials like utensil, blanket and rice to all the fire victims of PI colony.  TES members also conducted fire safety awareness programme and  appealed the  people to take care of electrification. It said, short circuit due to improper electrification is the major cause of fire accident in the town.

 

AYO demands release of pending salaries,  bills

ITANAGAR, Feb 21: The Arunachal Youth Organization (AYO) has demanded the state Govt to immediately release the pending salaries of contractual employees under the NRHM and the SSA.

In a representation to the chief minister, the organization also demanded the release of TA/DA/GPF and MR bills of government employees; release of pending bills of contractors under centrally-sponsored schemes sanctioned prior to two years ago; and payment of relief funds sanctioned under the NDRF/SDRF to the actual victims, 'instead of misusing or misappropriating the funds.'

The organization has threatened to launch an agitation if the Govt fails to address the demands at the earliest.

 

Regional office of TIPS inaugurated

ITANAGAR,  Feb 21: The  regional information office (RIO) of Tripura Institute of Paramedical Sciences (TIPS)  was inaugurated at K K Building Complex, D-sector here in an impressive function today.

The inaugural function was attended among others by Regional coordinator of the TIPS, Arunachal Pradesh Dr Hang Fao Tesia, TIPS Assistant Professor and admission coordinator Dr Sabyasachi Chowdhury, Tripura, other faculty members and students.

Chowdhury informed that TIPS is empanelled with the directorate of Medical Education, Govt of Arunachal Pradesh for five per cent reservation in each course for degree and diploma for five years.

The TIPS is a joint venture project with the Tripura Govt and is affiliated to Tripura University (a central university)

 

Army to conduct free medical camp

MECHUKHA, Feb 21: Continuing its welfare activities for the people of border areas, the 16-Bihar Regiment is going to organize a free medical camp under its ‘OP SAMARITAN’ at Mechukha Circle from February 23 to 24 next under the aegis of 5-Mountain Brigade.

Apart from basic medical checkup, BP evaluation, Lab facilities, vision checkup, dental health checkup and routine immunization will be conducted by a team of doctors and paramedics.

The medical camp is being conducted in the wake of Swine Flu menace and complete eradication of polio and thereby making India a ‘Polio free Nation.’

 

CYO demands judicial enquiry

ITANAGAR, Feb 21:  The Capital Youth Organization (CYO) has demanded for judicial enquiry over road mishap which killed a student named Biki Somi near Akasdeep here on February 18, morning involving a PCR patrolling car. In a letter addressed to the home minister CYO also demanded for ex-gratia for victim’s family at the earliest.

 

EK BJP Unit seeks restoration of APST bus service

ITANAGAR, Feb 21: East Kameng District BJP Unit appealed to the deputy commissioner for early restoration of Seppa to Chayangtajo APST bus service. In a representation to the DC Seppa, EK BJP unit claimed that due to unknown reason the service has been discontinued. A private run Tata Sumo is the only form of communication for general public. It also requested the district authority to ensure that BSNL mobile erected at Domdila Tajo becomes functional.  Claiming that government staffs remain off the station, BJP unit requested the DC to take strict action against the staffs found absent from their posting places. It also demanded for expedition of construction of Seppa-Chayangtajo road.

 

BCIF questions AAPSU-ANSU

ITANAGAR, Feb 21: The Banderdewa Circle Intellectual Forum (BCIF) has questioned the integrity of All Arunachal Pradesh Students Union (AAPSU) and All Nyishi Students Union (ANSU) for their ‘mercurial stand’ on construction of Greenfield airport.  BCIF reacted at the organizations for demanding to clear hurdles to expedite construction of Greenfield airport at Hollongi after meeting with officials of Airport Authority of India and civil aviation in New Delhi which was facilitated by MoS Kiren Rijiju.

Flaying AAPSU and ANSU, the Forum claimed that both students’ organisations also made similar statement while lobbying for construction of airport at Karsingsa in May 2013.  The forum further questioned the motive behind supporting the state government. It also asked the organisations to concentrate on working for the welfare of the students’ community rather than land affected people who are demanding compensation.  

 

JNC organizes “Glory Run”

ITANAGAR, Feb 21: Commemorating the golden jubilee celebration, the Jawaharlal Nehru College (JNC) Pasighat organized a “Glory Run” at Pasighat yesterday which saw participation of teachers, students, public leaders, local dwellers, officers and officials.

The run was flagged off by JNC Principal Tayek Talom Pasighat town and culminated at JNC Lower Campus playground.

Later, sports events and literary competitions including Inter- College essay competition on the topic “India Towards Magnificence” and the Inter- College &Inter -school painting competitions on “Tribal Reflections” & “Arunachal-A scenic Paradise’’ respectively were also conducted at JNC campus.

Tap immense hydel potential: Modi tells Arunachal

ITANAGAR, Feb 21: Prime Minister Narendra Modi called on the people of the state to harness the immense hydel power potential of Arunachal.

Addressing a huge crowd at IG Park, Itanagar on the occasion of the 29th Statehood day, the Prime Minister cited the examples of how Nepal and Bhutan were harnessing hydropower to transform their economy, and how Himachal Pradesh had done the same for country.

Modi in his earlier addresses in the state as Prime Minister in waiting had opposed construction of power projects in the state, if people do not agree to it.

"I have a dream of providing 24-hour electricity to the people of the country for which power have to be generated," Modi said.

He said Arunachal Pradesh could provide electricity to the entire country and called for development of the state's hydel potential, simultaneously giving proper compensation to people who get displaced by hydro projects.

Meanwhile, the PM asked the state government to ensure judicious utilisation of the plan allocation while assuring more funds saying that both the Centre as well as the state government are accountable to the people on fund utilisation.

"There is no dearth of funds....but the respective state governments of the region should ensure judicious utilization of all Central funds," he said and added that he had directed all his ministers to visit the North East states twice in a month to oversee development initiatives undertaken and study the problems of the region.

 

 

Indian Railways connect Arunachal with New Delhi

Itanagar, Feb 21: Prime Minister Narendra Modi flagged off through remote control the AC Express Train between Naharlagun and New Delhi and the Intercity Express between Naharlagun and Guwahati besides dedicating to nation the 21.75 km long broad gauge railway track between Naharlagun in Arunachal and Harmuti in Assam’s Lakhimpur district on Friday to mark the 29th statehood day of Arunachal.

Describing the new trains as a "special gift" to the people of the state on the occasion of 29th Statehood Day, Modi said that with the new train linking the state capital and the national capital, tourism industry would flourish soon enabling visitors from different parts of country.

Modi, said "Arunachal Pradesh is getting both ‘gati’(momentum) and ‘urja’ (energy) today."

He said the Centre had earmarked Rs 4,200 crore for the railway project in the state besides Rs 3,200 crore for the power transmission project.

He also laid the foundation stone of a 132 KV power transmission and distribution system project and unveiled the Itanagar Water Supply project.

"I am pained to note that 60 years were taken by Independent India to provide safe drinking water to the people of the state capital," he said.

While stressing on tourism and infrastructure development in the region, Modi said that the plan size for the entire North East for the year 2014-15 has been pegged at Rs 53,000 crore.

The PM also inaugurated the Festival of Arunachal and released a souvenir of the festival and a coffee table book “In Search of Solace” of the department of tourism, GoAP on the occasion. PTI

 

 

Arunachal celebrates the 29th Statehood Day

ITANAGAR, Feb 21: Arunachal Pradesh celebrated the 29th Statehood Day on Feb 20 with numerous events across the state. Peoples Awards were presented to different individuals and organisations in recognition of their immense contributions in the fields of education, health and agriculture, horticulture, animal husbandry etc on the occasion of Statehood Day.

KOLORIANG: While unfurling the National Flag, Kurung Kumey District Deputy Commissioner Mamata Riba emphasized on the need for proper implementation of various flagship programmes. Riba called upon the Panchayat leaders  and   public  to extend cooperation with the district administration for the benefit of common masses and to make Koloriang as one of the most beautiful  district Headquarters of the state.

BALIJAN: The Statehood day was celebrated at ADC Hq Balijan in a befitting manner. Addressing the gathering on the  occasion, II Batt and Ganga constituency ZPM Techi Mecha  asked all the officers of various department to work in a coordinated manner for development of the area.

Yupia: The 29th Statehood Day was celebrated in a befitting manner at Yupia. Tai Kaye, Deputy Commissioner unfurled the national flag amidst gathering of officers, PR leaders, ITBP jawans, Police personnel, GBs, Students, Youths and villagers.

Highlighting the achievements of the district in various fields, he said that Papum Pare district will become one of the most developed districts in days to come.

Main attraction of the day was the mock drill demonstration of disaster management by ITBP troops in their full man and machines which kept the audience spell bound. They demonstrated on how rescue and relief operations are carried out during any disaster situations.

Meanwhile, DC gave away the People’s Award comprising a silver medal and Commendation certificates to one medical Officer, staffs of DC Office and a Progressive farmer for rendering meritorious service in their respective fields.

Seppa: The day was celebrated at Seppa, East Kameng as DC Sandeep Kumar Singh hoisted the national Flag amidst huge gathering.

DC Singh said that in the last 29 years, there have been radical changes in all fronts. He appealed the people to preserve traditions & culture, language and not to get lost in the midst of modernization. He called on the people to unit together, keeping aside petty differences in the name of caste, creed for all round development.

PASIGHAT:  The Day was celebrated in all the administrative centers across East Siang with great pomp and show by holding an array of cultural events. At Pasighat general ground, East Siang Deputy Commissioner In-charge Ruchika Katyal (ADC) hoisted the national flag.

Katyal called upon the people to maintain peace and tranquility, cultural heritage, flora and fauna and livestock of the district which are pre-requisites for every development. Let us work to enhance the living standard of the people with utmost sincerity and devotion. After attaining Statehood, the state has touched remarkable height on development front and East Siang district in particular has been contributing in all spheres of development in the process, she said.

Apart from traditional dances, school students presented patriotic group dances and an archery competition was organized to mark the occasion. The annual souvenir “ARSI (Vol: xxiv)” published by the Central Solung Festival Celebration Committee’14, Pasighat was released. She gave “People’s Award-15” to thirty-one personalities for their outstanding services.

At Pangin: With rest part of the State, the people of Siang District also celebrated the 29th Statehood Day with great enthusiasm. The Deputy Commissioner Dr. N. Lego unfurled the national flag and appealed the citizens to cooperate with District Administration for speedy development extending their full cooperation in implementing all developmental schemes and projects.

RUKSIN: The 29th Statehood day was celebrated at Ruksin by mass plantation at new ADC Office complex. After plantation, ceremonial flag was hoisted by the ADC T.Pada , followed by traditional arrow shooting competition among the  Gaon Burhas(GBs) of Ruksin Sub Division.

CHANGLANG: Changlang celebrated day in a befitting manner. Zilla Parisad Chairperson, Marina Kenglang unfurled the tricolor amidst huge gathering.

Addressing the gathering she highlighted various ongoing developmental activities in the district and hoped that after completion of projects, it will alter the fate of the district while appealing the executing agencies to expedite the work sincerely and maintain quality.  She conveyed her heartfelt thanks to all and sundry for their active participation.

Later, the ZPC inaugurated exhibition stall put in place by various departments and Self Help Groups of numerous villages.

A football match and rally on Swachh Bharat Mission by department of PHED were other highlights.

The national flag was hoisted by Khandu Philley, Galling-Mecuhkha ASM, and Guard of honour was given by APP Jawans at Mechukha general ground on the occasion.

To mark the celebration altogether 15 officers/officials/individuals were awarded with ‘People’s Award-2015’ for their selfless service rendered to the area in particular and state in general.

AALO: The 29th Statehood Day was celebrated in a befitting manner at General Football Ground today.

Talong Taggu, former MLA unfurled the national tricolor and called all to march ahead hand in hand without any discrimination for peace and prosperity of Arunachal.

Attractive cultural shows were presented by different tribes residing at  Aalo. Consumer Awareness Exhibition Stall was put up on the occasion by ACLM Aalo to generate much needed awareness on consumer’s right and duties. In the Inter Departmental Volleyball final match APP outclassed IRBN in three straight sets to  lift the trophy.

KHONSA: Along with the rest of Arunachal Pradesh, the 29th Statehood Day was celebrated at Khonsa with various programmes. Tirap Deputy Commissioner Kamlesh Joshi said that the day marked the unification of people from all walks of life in the state to build a strong, vibrant and self-reliant Arunachal Pradesh. He opined that the real development should emanate from the districts adding that Tirap district was making rapid strides in all spheres. He expressed concern over land encroachment in Khonsa Township and asked the residents to report to the district administration if they come across cases of land encroachment.

Earlier, the PHE & WS Division, Khonsa Division organized Swachhata Rally.

BOMDILA: The 29th Statehood Day was celebrated at Buddha Stadium. Deputy Commissioner, A.K. Singh urged the denizens to strive for development of Arunachal Pradesh.

The event was marked by colorful cultural programme and football match between DC’s XI v/s Public XI. The Public XI emerged as winner with 3-1.

YINGKIONG: With rest part of the State, the people of Upper Siang District also celebrated the 29th Statehood Day of Arunachal Pradesh with great enthusiasm.

Remo Kamki, Deputy Commissioner unfurled the national flag at General ground. In his brief speech, Kamki traced back to the constitutional and administrative development of present Arunachal Pradesh- from North-East Frontier Tract to North-East Frontier Agency,(NEFA) and to the present stage of Statehood. The Deputy Commissioner thanked the senior citizens, public leaders, PRI members and Gaon Buras for extending full cooperation to the government officers and officials in implementing all developmental activities and to achieve the common goal of making Upper Siang a model district in the State. The major highlights of the day long programme were Games & Sports competition and Folk dance competition by cultural troupes from various tribes of Arunachale Pradesh as well as from Non Arunachalee communities residing in the District.

NAMSAI: The National flag was unfurled by RK Sharma, Deputy Commissioner, Namsai on the 29th Statehood Day which was celebrated at Namsai HQ.

Sharma acknowledged the tremendous efforts of the leaders and sacrifices of many known and unknown personalities who had played significant roles in the formation of the beautiful Frontier State of Arunachal Pradesh. The People’s Award instituted by the Government of Arunachal Pradesh to personalities /organizations etc for excellence in various sectors were given away on the Occasion by the Deputy Commissioner.

Exhibition stalls by Dept. of PHED, ICDS, Disaster Management, Horticulture, Agriculture ATMA, NGOs were the added attraction of the day.

NEW DELHI: New Delhi got a whiff of Arunachal’s air as the national flag was unfurled at Arunachal Bhawan by the Resident Commissioner, V Abrraham to mark the statehood day. All the officers and officials from various departments working in Bhawan attended the ceremony.

In his speech, Abrraham urged all the staff to be dedicated towards their work and serve the state with utmost dedication.

An informal meeting was held after the event where the RC along with Additional RC, Jigmi Choden and Deputy Resident Commissioners, Sangit Dubey and Marto Bagra heard the grievances of the staff and assured to try and find a solution for them.

TEZU: The Statehood Day was celebrated at Jubilee Ground, Tezu with much fanfare. The National Flag was unfurled on the occasion by Deputy Commissioner Dr. B.M.Mishra amidst huge gathering of Government officials, Panchayat members, Goan Burahs, school students, public etc. Cultural programmes and games and sports were also conducted on the day.

Deputy Commissioner addressing the gathering said that a new era of development has transcended upon Arunachal Pradesh with the railway connection. More developments will follow up with the development of road and air connectivity in Tezu in particular and Arunachal Pradesh as a whole. By January 2016 the Airport in Tezu will be functional, he informed. He also informed that a world class sports stadium will soon be constructed in Tezu which will be named after the Late Sobeng Tayang. He requested everyone to abstain themselves from drug addictions and other unlawful activities like land encroachment etc. He appealed to every citizen of Tezu to shoulder the responsibility of development and take part in the process of making Tezu a developed, beautiful, clean and hygiene district.

ANJAW: The 29th Statehood Day was celebrated at Hawai district headquarter of Anjaw.  

Nyabin Ete, Deputy Commissioner unfurled the National Flag amidst huge gathering. HE advised the populace of Anjaw to opt for cardamom cultivation instead  of opium as Anjaw is very fertile and suitable for cardamom.  He also exhorted and discouraged the use of polythene bags. He further urged the people not to claim exorbitant land compensation from the executing agencies/govt for  road construction and Hydro power development and also he requested the general public to construct toilet in every household. Since Anjaw is the first place to receive the sunrise, the first development should also starts from here, he said.

BORDUMSA: The statehood day was celebrated with great pomp and show at Bordumsa General Ground.Six persons were conferred with People's Award 2015 on the occasion. The daylong celebration was marked by unfurling of National Flag by ZPM Bordumsa, Tongko Singpho.

TAWANG: The 29th Statehood Day was also celebrated at Tawang in which Deputy Commissioner Abhishek Dev gave brief account of flagship programme of the state government and the new initiate taken by the District administration under DC’s untied fund. On the occasion, he also extended his Losar festival greeting to the people of Tawang.

Later, he handed over the people’s award for the district to NGOs, Officers, Education department, Health department and Urban Development department.

Tuki urges Centre for developmental package

ITANAGAR, Feb 21: Chief Minister Nabam Tuki has requested the Centre for providing developmental packages and establishment of various institutions in the state.  CM Tuki placed and called upon Prime Minister Narendra Modi to consider a 15-point memorandum for the rapid growth of the state.  

He was addressing a mammoth gathering at IG Park Itanagar along with Prime Minister Narendra Modi during the 29th Statehood day celebrations.

Detailing the natural resources of the state, the CM stated that Arunachal has 82 percent quality forest, with huge potential in Agriculture and Horticulture both temperate and tropical, unique geology with high quality reserves of Coal and Oil in addition to other minerals such as graphite, dolomite, etc., tourism potential, medicinal plant, the perennial rivers.

Stating that due to institutional bottlenecks – unfavorable policies, protracted procedure for clearances and perceived low priority region, the resources are yet to be sustainably harnessed, Tuki said it has resulted in deprivation to the people of both the State and Nation.

The memo requested for continued support in completion of all projects under the Prime Minister’s Special Economic Package-2008 and early start of Green Field Airport in Itanagar, better surface, air communication and telecommunication, proposal for providing drinking water supply, special package for border infrastructure, hydropower development and power issues, special package for realizing the Agro-Horticulture potential, Organic farming, Spice etc. Tea & rubber, setting up of Central Government Complex (CGO Complex) in Itanagar, master plan for exploration of minerals such as coal, oil, graphite etc. in Arunachal Pradesh.

Tuki further called for establishment of Sainik school, AIIMS like institution, IIT, IIM in the State, Regional Centre for Skill Development, three Smart Cities, Regional Film & Television Institute with comprehensive sports development.

Lastly, the CM appealed for a solution to the issue of Asian Development Bank/World Bank/Japan International Cooperation Agency and window for alternate funding. Tuki expressed hope that the Centre would add in for the development initiatives and demands for a developed Arunachal and a nation.    

Earlier highlighting the initiatives of the Government, Tuki detailed on the Chief Minister’s Universal Health Insurance Scheme, Skill Development and Employment Generation Programme and decentralization and empowering of local Panchayats and Urban Local Bodies. Arunachal Pradesh has improved its national ranking in devolution of powers from 27th to 5th, which is a testimony of our commitment in giving power to people, added Tuki.

Requesting the Prime Minister to provide the state government with the technical expertise in preparation of the Arunachal Vision 2030 document, Tuki informed that the state government has recently taken decision to prepare a realistic vision of the State for the next 15 years and named it the Arunachal Vision 2030 with medium and long term Development Vision for the state.

 

 

Festival of Arunachal: Bookstall of research department draws huge crowd

ITANAGAR, Feb 21: The exhibition stall of research publications hosted by Directorate of research, Government of Arunachal Pradesh, has been receiving overwhelming response in on-going Arunachal festival 2015 being held at I G Park here. The precious books published by the research department are the outcome of field research since 1951 to promote, preserve and document the culture, custom, tradition, heritage, historical monument, linguistics wealth contributed by research  scholars. The only bookstall (No 13) in the exhibition enclave succeeded to satisfy the inquisitive thrust of the book lovers. While visiting the stall, an eminent intellectual and senior APCS officer Rajeev Takuk termed it as “nice display of books”. ADC to Governor of A.P. Irak Bagra commented “good initiative and do hope this endeavor continues”. An advocate Sunil Mow said “good to see all publications and well maintained”. Commissioner of Govt of AP Belatee Pertin, expressed with prissy note “Brilliantly well displayed and officials are courteous and polite. Well done”.  An official of NHPC Amal Dutta said “Very attractive stall”.

 

 

Orgs decry land allotment to individuals in Dapo daily bazaar

DAPORIJO, Feb 21: More than 30 families which have been earning their livelihood for last 25 years in the main Daily Bazaar of Daporijo town are going to become jobless as the process to give land allotment in market area to some individuals is going on.

Clandestine practice of Govt land allotment to individuals by the authority is very common in Daporijo for last many years. Due to such practice, there are no more vacant govt. quarters in the town which needs serious attention of the Govt.

In a complaint letter to Deputy Commissioner, All New Market Daily Bazaar Welfare Committee has expressed their dismay over the ongoing land allotment process against the daily bazaar, (plot No 6 at new market) to some vested interested individuals. This allotment of land will deprive the poor vegetable vendors and their family members of livelihood.

Terming the allotment process as clandestine the Committee condemned the authority for such ‘illegal practice’ which pave the way for  encroachment.

Meanwhile, Tagin Cultural Society (TCS) also condemned such clandestine practice of land allotment to individuals without the consent of the vegetable vendors. Observing the sentiments of the  public, the  TCS appealed the authority to cancel the allotment process immediately to avoid any untoward  situation.

Meanwhile, All Tagin Youth Organization has also registered its anguish and appealed to the administration to immediately cancel the allotment process and allow the poor vegetable vendors to continue their livelihood in daily bazaar.  The Organization also threatened to launch democratic movement if the authorities do not pay heed to grievances.

 

 

1st Juvenile Justice Board coordination meeting held

PASIGHAT, Feb 21: A district-level coordination meeting to strengthening the child protection mechanism under Integrated Child Protection Scheme (ICPS) and Juvenile Justice Board (JJB) was held at the DC Office Pasighat Thursday last.

While chairing the meeting, DC In-charge Ruchika Katyal highlighted the role of the Child Welfare Committee (CWC) on taking proper care and protection of juveniles. The ICPS is a centrally sponsored scheme aimed at building a protective environment for children in difficult circumstances as well as other vulnerable children through Government-Civil Society Partnership. She said that, a Juvenile detained for a crime is usually brought before a special court/JJB under the Juvenile Justice Act instead of a regular criminal court. The purpose of a separate court is socio-legal rehabilitation and reformation not punishment. The aim is to counsel the child to understand their actions and persuade them to give up criminal activities in the future.

While reviewing the working of the District Child Protection Unit (DCPU), she said, the unit should coordinate and implement all child rights and protection activities.

While dealing with a juvenile, police officer should wear plain cloth instead of uniform and conduct thorough medical checkup for determination of age and physical condition. She also instructed the police department to train and deploy woman police while dealing with a girl, in Juvenile Home.

The Superintendent Onyok Panyang (CDPO) and Child Welfare Officer Mazing Tayeng of Juvenile Home (JH) raised various difficulties being faced by them due to shortage of manpower. They also said that there is also need for larger involvement of informal systems and community based welfare agencies in the care, protection, treatment, development and rehabilitation of juveniles.

SDO A Pertin, OC N Riba (OC), Incharge DMO Dr. T Gao, DDSE Tani Talom, Dr. LC Darung (Psychiatrist) and others also shared their experiences and briefed about understanding of the JJ Act and the ICPS in ensuring child protection. DIPRO

 

 

Memorial statue of Oiram Bori unveiled at Oyan village

RUKSIN, Feb 21: Pasighat West MLA and Parliamentary Secretary (Industry) Tatung Jamoh today unveiled a memorial statue (Liipang) of Babu Oiram Bori, the pioneer of Mising art and culture, at Oyan village located at Assam-Arunachal boundary here.

Unveiling the stone at Oiram Bori Cultural Complex (Lotta) at Oyan village, Jamoh said the statue will keep alive the contribution of Oiram Bori towards the Mising people living in Arunachal and Assam. He urged the local villagers to take proper care of the memorial stone and opined that the stone of the legendary artist will inspire youths in preservation of their culture. .

Speaking on the occasion, Oyan Head Gaon Burah, Muhim Pait recalled enormous contribution of late Babu Oiram Bori, who dedicated his life for promotion of art and culture of Mising tribe during NEFA days.

According to him, late Oiram Bori had inherent quality in singing and dancing, improved the melodious ‘Mising Oi Nitom’ and ‘Lo-Le Nitom’.

The newly built rostrum inside Oiram Bori Cultural Complex was also opened by Raju Medok, an executive councilor of Assam based Mising Autonomous Council.

The programme was followed by a discussion, wherein eminent persons including former Rajya Sabha MP Nyodek Yonggam, Bogong (Pasighat) ZPM Okom Yosung, Mising Bane Kebang executive Girin Morang and others delivered speech in favour of preservation of the tribal cultures through research and proper documentation.

The unveiling programme was conducted by ‘Oiram Bori Trust Committee’ dedicated to preserve the socio-cultural contributions of Oiram Bori.

The committee led by Dr Rabin Bori has built the statue with a cost of Rs 5 Lakh, which was funded by East-Arunachal MP Ninong Ering. The trust committee also released a booklet depicting biography and dedicative works of Oiram Bori.

Born in 1877 at Peneng Oyan, near present Sille Teromile village in East Siang district, Oiram Bori achieved his primary education at Murkongselek (present Jonai in Assam) and later he took admission in Middle English school at Sadiya. He took active role for the development of then Abor Hill district during NEFA rule. The NEFA government, following supervision of Oiram Bori, prepared projects for construction of motor-able road between Oyan and Pasighat. He was popularly known as ‘Member Mijing’ in the society.

During the quit India movement, Oiram Bori was appointed as a member of Area development council in 1944, by the local authority. He made master plan for the entire Oyang area by demarcating the boundaries of inter village to avoid future land dispute.

By formation of Murong Okum (community Hall), he insisted on the villagers to hold development meeting. He breathed his last at Oyan , his native village in 1964.

 

 

Capital Complex retain men’s football title

ITANAGAR, Feb 21: Capital Complex retained the men's football title in the Chief Minister's Trophy tournament defeating Lower Subansiri by solitary goal in the final played at Rajiv Gandhi Stadium, Naharlagun yesterday.

The winning goal was scored by Gobinso Drai in the second minutes of the play.

The Governor of Arunachal Pradesh Lt. Gen (Retd) Nirbhay Sharma, who kicked off the final match, said that sportspersons are the ambassadors of Arunachal Pradesh in the games and sports arenas. Stating that the spectators and children look upon them as their idols, therefore, they must maintain high degree of sportsman spirit.

The Governor called upon the youth of the State and children to take active part in games and sports. He appealed to guardians and parents to encourage their children in games and sports.

Highlighting the importance of games and sports, the Governor said that sports facilitate channelize youth energy for the betterment of society; help them to physically and mentally fit.

"If you are physical and mental fit, you have the highest chance to excel in life. Moreover, you have a bright future to join the armed forces. Keep fit and join Indian Armed Forces maintaining the tradition of 'Sentinel of North East', the Governor said.

Citing recent successes in the national level competition by the sportspersons of the State, the Governor congratulated the members of Archery Team for the gold medal, other participants and their family, friends and community for the rear achievement. He also congratulated other sportspersons who brought laurels in other fields like weightlifting, badminton, karate and mountaineering.

Chief Minister Nabum Tuki, Parliamentary Secretary (Home, Sports and Youth Affairs) Likha Saaya were present, amongst others, on the occasion.

The trophies and prizes to the winner and runners up will be given away tomorrow at IG Park here.

Guv XI beat CM's XI in football friendly

Meanwhile, the football friendly match played between Governor's and XI and CM's XI was won by the former by 2-0 goal.

Secretary (Sports) Danu Salu and STS GM Abu Tayeng scored one goal each in the match.

 

 

Mudang Omo and Anung Wangsu win men and women’s mini marathon race

ITANAGAR, Feb 21: Mudang Omo and Anung Wangsu won the men and women's mini marathon race with theme "Run for mission 2030 together we will do it" organized by the Department of Sports and Youth Affairs as part of the 29th Statehood Day celebration.

Omo clocked 38.07 minute while Anung took 53.42 minutes to win the race in men and women's category respectively.

T. Tako (38.28 min) and Soma Pao (41.40 min) finished second and third respectively in men's category.

Soni Nalo (55.26 min) and Anai Wangsu (56.42 min) won the second and third positions in women's category.

Both Anung and Soni are students of Sangey Lhaden Sports Academy and Anai is student of SAI, SAG centre, Naharlagun.

Besides the top three finishers, consolation prizes were also given to 4th to 10th position holders of both men's and women's categories.

The race which was flagged at Rajiv Gandhi Stadium Naharlagun by Parliamentary Secretary (Sports and Youth Affairs) Likha Saaya and Secretary Sports Dani Salu finished at Indira Gandhi Park, Itanagar. Director of Sports and Youth Affairs DK Dinglow, JDSYA Tadar Appa, Ramesh Linggi and Papum Pare DSO OB Meitei were present during the flagging off ceremony.

169 athletes including 127 men and 42 women participated in the race.
